Dear Wonderful Patron of the Arts,
This holiday season, we encourage you to pause and reflect on the inspiring work being done by nonprofit organizations across the country, and to consider what you might be able to give back to these selfless organizations. We are one such organization, and we thank you for considering us.
Our 2019 feature production LUMINARIUM IN CONCERT celebrates the act of “coming together” across ages, genres, and geography: Merli’s new film shows us the beautiful connections that transform between movers as young as 10 days and as seasoned as 60 years; Kim’s new work RING bridges the gap between real-time combat sport and movement for the theatrical stage; the production's opening piece encourages all of us to recognize our part in the world’s fight for a cleaner planet; and most notably, LUMINARIUM IN CONCERT marks the first time Luminarium’s home-base Boston Company will perform alongside Luminarium’s New Jersey-based Satellite Company (founded in 2018).
We’ve had a busy year so far, one that has been ripe with commissions and new collaborations. On the heels of her recent NEFA New England Dance Fund grant, Kim has been selected as a 2019-20 CATALYSTS resident artist to develop her piece Contradictions + Casual Self-Loathing. Merli, who is now pursuing her MFA in Dance from Rutgers University, was recently honored to present two of her screendance films at the nationally-acclaimed Women in Dance Leadership Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Both the Boston Company and Satellite Company created performance events as part of the international Global Water Dances project, with Kim presenting in Merrimack, NH, and Merli presenting in West Windsor, NJ. Our 2019 Season also marked the return of Luminarium’s much-beloved 24-Hour ChoreoFest—America’s only 24-hour choreography festival—and we welcomed collaborations with visual artists, composers, and theatre companies throughout the year.
Luminarium’s 2020 Season will be our celebratory 10th year and we already have many exciting projects in the works. The company’s abundant community-based programs, educational workshops, and original productions rely on contributions to our Year End Appeal as we expand our programming as far and as fast as budget allows. Follow along as we embark upon new projects and don’t forget to join us at one of our many other events across spring and summer in Greater Boston and New Jersey!
