COMMON CIRCUS ONLINE STREAMING

APRIL 2023 - Common Circus streamed a second time in April, rereleased in an accessible format featuring audio description and captions.

As a pandemic's worth of at-home time passed, creator Kim Holman found herself focusing on the tasks and motions she repeated regularly, fantasizing about the site of utmost spectacle—circus—and questioning what it would be like to throw such rote tasks as making coffee into the three-ring environment. From folding laundry to existential dread, throughout this work viewers are invited to notice and celebrate the mundane and ritualized bits of their own lives.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE... CAMBRIDGE MA

AUGUST 1-31, 2022 - What’s on the Line… is a participatory public art piece that calls attention to the shame women carry. Populated by words typically used towards and about women, the work presents the idea that our vernacular and social norms provide permission to make outward snap judgements, which undermine security and make an entire gender of people feel “less than.” When inhabited by performers and light, the work also circles around themes of domestic labor, identity existing in layers, and transparency. The installation is a component of Holman’s 2021 performance piece Contradictions + Casual Self Loathing, which has been supported by The Boston Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, and the Boston and Dedham Cultural Councils. Visitors viewed it at Complex @ Canal Atrium Gallery for the month of August in Cambridge, MA.
