CONTRADICTIONS + CASUAL SELF LOATHING
Everyone’s got baggage—mortifications that will haunt us forever, a regrettable high school look, that hug that turned out to be a handshake, the time we self-censored and didn’t speak up, the time something beyond our control made us feel like absolute shit. Contradictions + Casual Self Loathing is a glimpse through the many transparencies of life experience, specifically the female experience. How can we acknowledge our traumas while celebrating discomfort, awkwardness, the things that push us and the things we don’t like about ourselves?
Contradictions + Casual Self Loathing, created by Kimberleigh A. Holman, features live performances and collaboration by Company Members Jessica Chang, Melenie Diarbekirian, Amy Mastrangelo, and Katie McGrail, with a design team featuring Adria Arch (scenic design), karen Krolak (dramaturgy), and Anne Dresbach (lighting design). This project is made possible (in part) by a Live Arts Boston grant from the Boston Foundation.
WARNING: This show explores intense and personal subject matter and is most appropriate for teens and adults. The show also utilizes sudden loud noises (bubble wrap) and occasional dim lighting.
