Last year I covered Luminarium’s incredible show Sleeprunner, and this year they’re back with the next adventure: Spektrel. The show runs October 27-31 at the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge. I had the chance to preview the show and the costumes the other day and it’s a must-see. Co-directors Merli V. Guerra and Kim Holman have outdone themselves with this production. In addition to co-choreographing the show, Merli handmade several of the costumes including my favorite piece, a 40-yard, floor-length black gown that transforms into a sassy multi-colored sundress.

The performance includes four choreographed pieces, each one telling a unique story around the themes of ambition, fantasy, and childhood. Known for their use of light and projection, Luminarium will feature several artistic projections incorporated into the dance.

Some tickets are still available but they’re going fast, you can reserve your seats here. The Luminarium fall show is one of my favorite events in Boston. As a newbie to the dance scene I have difficulty following a lot of performances. But the Luminarium shows are captivating for all audiences, whether you’re a lifelong lover of the arts or a complete virgin to the contemporary dance scene.

If you go to any kind of artistic performance this year, it should be this one. See you there!
